Dock operations process is part of Gate to Dock processes covering all activities related to Scheduling & managing dock appointments, dock door assignments, managing dock door check & check out and monitoring the dock door activities such as loading or unloading.
Dock operations consist of following activities:
- Dock operations typically begin when an inbound shipment or outbound delivery is scheduled through a dock appointment.
- A dock appointment is created based on the shipment request and dock availability.
- Operations commence once the trailer arrives at the dock within the scheduled time window.
- As part of the dock process, appropriate resources (e.g., labor and equipment) are allocated for loading or unloading the trailer.
- The loading or unloading process begins with dock check-in, during which the trailer's location is updated to reflect the assigned dock, and the dock status is changed to "Assigned."
- Once the loading / unloading is completed, trailer is checked out from the dock door. Dock status changes to “Free”.

- Oracle WMS can be integrated with external Yard management system and trailer movements can be interfaced into Oracle WMS (Locate to yard, First Available, Remove from yard) for better Yard management.
